Pigment + Place

Workshop at Camp Colton

October 24 10:00 AM - 26 4:00 PM

Are you ready for the world to become your palette? This workshop will introduce you to the vibrant world of natural pigments in our ecosystem. You’ll learn how to ethically forage pigments from rocks, plants, and bones — and transform them into any type of paint or ink. You’ll also learn about pigments as a way to creatively engage with ecological issues, including climate change. On the first day, you’ll learn basic pigment-making skills. On days 2 and 3, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen those skills and learn more advanced techniques in a guided and supported environment. You'll receive creative prompts to work on during and after the workshop to stimulate your imagination and expand your creative practice.

This course will include demonstrations, guided conversation, guided foraging outings, creative prompts, and time for individual and group reflection. You’ll leave with a shared palette sourced from Camp Colton's rich bioregion and the skills to continue this practice on your own.

This course is appropriate for all skill levels. No experience of any kind is necessary. Participants should be comfortable engaging in short nature walks.
