Cultural Connections: Celebrating Mexican Heritage through Charrería

  • Stelo 412 Northwest 8th Avenue Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

Exhibition Description

Stelo Arts

September 4th - 20th | 12PM - 5PM, Thursday - Saturday

Opening Reception
September 4th, 2025 | 5:00–8:00 PM
Our opening reception will take place on the first Thursday of September. Light refreshments will be available.

The exhibition will feature murals created by Oliver Casillas, inspired by the stunning photographs of Inés Magaña. These murals will adorn the walls and serve as a vibrant backdrop to a montage of photographs and paintings by both artists, highlighting their individual interpretations of charrería and its significance in Mexican culture.

At the core of this exhibition lies the premise that Portland and Guadalajara are sister cities, a relationship that fosters cultural exchange and understanding. Both Inés and Oliver have strong ties to these cities, allowing them to blend their experiences and showcase their Latin roots in the Pacific Northwest.

Through this collaborative presentation, we aim to celebrate the rich traditions of charrería, emphasize the shared heritage between Portland and Guadalajara, and express the profound connections that bind these two communities. Audiences will have the opportunity to engage with the artwork and deepen their understanding of Latin culture, while also appreciating the unique stories of Inés and Oliver as they honor their roots in Oregonian land.

We invite you to join us for this captivating exhibition that not only celebrates Latino Heritage Month but also serves as a testament to the enduring bonds between cultures.
