C3: PROJECT RESIDENCY

MISS ANTHOLOGY
SUMMER 2017

c3:initiative is pleased to host the collaborative behind Miss Anthology for residency through Summer 2017.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Miss Anthology’s mission is to support racially and economically diverse young comic artists of the female diaspora by teaching professional skills through hands-on workshops, and publishing their work online and in print. By introducing female and genderqueer artists and writers to the comics and the art industries before they graduate, they will gain a firm understanding and head start on their careers, as well as an established network of peers within this otherwise male-dominated field.

The Miss Anthology project includes a series of professional skill-building, hands-on workshops in sequential art (comics), for female and genderqueer youth, ages thirteen to eighteen, of diverse racial, religious, and economic backgrounds in the Greater Portland Area. Comics fuse visual art, text, and time in a way that no other medium can. Our primary objective is to help female and genderqueer students explore this male-dominated field. This artist-centric project will culminate in the print and online publication of student artwork, with the intention of annual recurrence. Our programming will include eight workshops for up to thirty students per workshop. Concepts covered will include character development, written narrative, drawing skills, storyboarding, inking, digital post-production, and submission for publication.

We at Stelo humbly acknowledge that our programming is being held on the traditional lands of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and many other Tribes who made their homes along the Columbia (Wimahl) and Willamette (Whilamut) rivers.

We offer respectful recognition to the Native communities in our region, and to those who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. Please consider the many legacies of violence, displacement, migration, and settlement that bring us together here today. We recognize the continual displacement of Native people by the United States and are committed to working to dismantle the ongoing effects of this settler colonial legacy. Please join us in respecting the contributions Indigenous peoples have, and continue to make to our community, country, and world.
